Foraged Marks Exhibition at Create98,
Leigh on Sea, Essex.
May 2022

The exhibition featured over 30 original works of art created using natural plant brushes within the process. The show was the culmination of months of experimental work I had created in a response to estuary walks. My main line of enquiry work was to investigate how I could create marks that communicated how it feels to be out in nature, rather than how it looks. Using plants such as wild fennel and reeds from the estuary bank, I began to create my own brushes and exploring the marks I could make using inks. I was instantly drawn to the incredible and expressive marks that I could create using this technique, and went on to create works in a range of subtle colours as well as the striking black monochromatic pieces.

Workshops

To run alongside the exhibition, I led an in person workshop at Create98 entitled 'Experimental Mark Making'. The workshop involved making natural brushes, exploring different inks and papers and then finally creating an abstract drawing to take home.
